Construction companies Bower & Kirkland and Dawn Construction have been appointed by TAL CPT Land Development Partnership LLP (TAL) to build its new £330 million commercial development at Eurocentral in Lanarkshire – the largest speculative business development project ever to be undertaken in Scotland.

Work is already in progress on phase one of the development on the former Chunghwa site, which will eventually boast some 732,000 sq feet (68,000 sq m) of net internal office space and 422,639 sq ft (39,266 sq m) of industrial space. Helping establish Eurocentral as one of the UK’s largest and most innovative business parks, the Bower & Kirkland Group is tasked to build 900,000 sq ft of flexible, high quality office space by March 2010 in a project worth £130 million.

Dawn Construction will build five specialist distribution units with a combined floor area of 240,000 sq ft as part of an £11.6 million contract. This is the company’s fourth contract with Eurocentral, having already constructed two developments at the site, each consisting of three office buildings and the 92-room Dakota Hotel, and is scheduled for completion in July 2008.

Karen Campbell, chief executive with TAL, said:

“This is the largest speculative scheme in the UK to date and we therefore need construction companies on board that have the expertise and resources to help us put Eurocentral firmly on the map. We’re pleased to be welcoming both Dawn Construction and Bower & Kirkland to this project.”

Paul Dodsworth, project director with Bower & Kirkland, said:

“On a personal level, the challenge for me and my project team to deliver such a fantastic development is very exciting. “Bower & Kirkland’s involvement in the Eurocentral project is an ideal spring board to further build on a long-standing and successful presence in Scotland.” Jim Johnstone, divisional manager for Dawn Construction, said: “It is a real boost to our company to be involved in the redevelopment of this high profile site and we recognise TAL’s vision and investment in realising the potential of the location.”
